What are your products made of?

Our palm leaf products are crafted from organically fallen Areca palm tree leaves. The palm leaf is composed of various sections. We use the sheath, which is the robust, thick end of the leaf that links to the tree.

Is it suitable for continual use?

Our palm leaf plates are heavy duty disposable plates that are meant to be used only once. However, when used at home with dry food, they can often be wiped clean and reused. They should be considered single use when used as party or wedding plates.

Are your products food safe?

Yes. Our palm leaf plates are quality checked and sterilised.

Do these come wrapped in plastic?

Given that our plates are made from dried leaves, they naturally absorb moisture from their surroundings. We use 100% recyclable plastic wrapping to minimise moisture build-up and prevent mould growth.

We are currently testing compostable alternatives, but the technology doesn’t yet exist to use as an alternative to plastic packaging. We are always open to suggestions so please reach out to us if you know of a better solution.

Can these be decomposed in a backyard compost pile?

Our palm leaf plates can be composted in DIY setups in your home or backyard. Expect to decompose in about 6 to 8 weeks.

How durable are palm leaf products?

Palm leaves are naturally sturdy, and the heat compress used to shape them strengthens them even more. They are more durable than most plastic and paper plates on the market, and you can confidently handle your food with just one hand.

Are leaf plates organic?

Yes. Because they are created from natural leaves, the plates are completely organic. In the manufacturing process, no chemicals, poisons, or binding agents have been used.

What causes the distinct hues of streaks? Black spots?

Natural colour variations in raw materials can occur as a result of weather and environmental factors. Each leaf is unique and has its own personality. Colour variations, streaks, and spots are natural occurrences caused by variations in the leaves.

Where do your palm leaves come from?

Our palm leaf products are from and manufactured in India.

How are your palm leaf products made?

Fallen palm leaves are gathered, dried, and pressure cleaned. The leaves are then cut and shaped into a desired form before being heat treated to maintain form and sturdiness and sanitised using UV light before packing.

Do I need to wash the plates or bowls before use?

Not required, our plates come pre-washed, sterilized, and treated under high temperatures.

Do your palm leaf plates hold liquid?

Yes. Our palm leaf plates and bowls can hold liquids. They are suitable for both hot and cold dishes. They can be used in the same way that regular plates are.

What temperatures can your products withstand? Is it safe to use in the oven or Microwave?

Our palm leaf plates can be baked in the oven at 325°F for up to 45 minutes.
They can be microwaved for up to 2 minutes on high or baked for up to 30 minutes at 180 degrees Celsius. They are not, however, ideal for direct use in a fire.

Do palm leaf plates smell, and does it alter the flavour of the food?

Palm leaf plates may have a slight earthy or woody aroma, but it is usually not strong enough to alter the flavour of the food served on them. However, in rare cases, the aroma may be noticeable and could affect the taste of very delicately flavoured foods.

It's worth noting that the smell and taste of the food served on a palm leaf plate can also be affected by the hygiene and cleanliness of the plate, as well as the storage and handling of the food itself.

Are palm leaf products related to palm oil?

Palm leaf products and palm oil are both derived from the palm tree, but they are not directly related.

Palm leaf products are typically made from the leaves of the Areca palm, which is a species of palm native to tropical regions of Asia.

Palm oil, on the other hand, is a vegetable oil that is extracted from the fruit of the oil palm tree. It is widely used in the food industry for cooking, baking, and as an ingredient in many processed foods. Palm oil is also used in a variety of non-food products, such as soaps, detergents, and cosmetics.

While both palm leaf products and palm oil are derived from the palm tree, they are produced in different ways and serve different purposes.

Do palm leaf products contribute to deforestation?

Palm leaf products are made from the leaves of the Areca palm, which is a different species of palm tree than the oil palm tree that is commonly associated with deforestation. Therefore, the production of palm leaf products is generally not considered a major contributor to deforestation.

What makes palm leaf plates so friendly to the environment?

Our palm leaf plates are eco-friendly because they are made from a renewable and biodegradable resource, produced using a low-carbon process, and free from harmful chemicals. Their production also supports local communities and promotes sustainable agriculture.
